I have probably posted this before on my blog somewhere but will share again because it is worth it!
We usually try to make it up 3-5 days before when it will be served. We put the batches in gallon size bags and freeze. I have been making this since back in the early 2000's and is all I serve on Christmas Eve. Also I have only used the cherry but they say you can use other flavors. It is a slush punch.
1 3 0z. cherry gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1 46 oz. can unsweetened pineapple juice
1 1/2 cup sugar
4 cups cold water
2 quarts ginger ale chilled when serving.
Dissolve gelatin into 1 cup boiling water. Add pineapple juice, sugar, cold water and stir well. Freeze.
Set out 2 hours before serving. Break into chunks. Pour ginger ale over it. Sometimes I get it out when ready to use and have to use a knife to break it up.
For about 19 people I do 3 batches and that is using red solo cups. If any is left over people like to drink it,

Ham Potato Puffs
This is such a easy, good recipe that I have made several times. Taken it to work and church for breakfast. Could be left over Christmas Eve potatoes for Christmas breakfast.
1 tube (12 ounces) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1 cup cubed fully cooked ham ( lunch meat)
1 cup leftover mashed potatoes
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1/2 tsp. dried parsley flakes ( I leave this off)
1/4 tsp. garlic powder (adjust to your taste)
Press each biscuit onto the bottom and up the sides of a greased muffin cup. In a large bowl, combine the ham, potatoes, 1/2 cup cheese, parsley and garlic powder.
Spoon 1/4 cup into each prepared cup. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers.

Door Prize
For the last several years on Christmas Eve I mark either a cup, or plate (have been considering a napkin or silverware to try) for a door prize. The prize is $10 gift card to Wal-Mart. I put it in a box with candy or with chap stick, lotion, gum something that young and old could use. Just alittle excitement.
I am thinking this year to stick scratch off on the bottom of each plate and maybe the one without a ticket would be the gift card.....still thinking.

Candy Canes
Use PVC pipe and red tape and make candy canes to line you driveway or sidewalk. Put lights from one candy cane to another to make a path on both sides. Use a straight piece and elbow of PVC pipe to make the candy canes. Or straight piece for peppermint stick and still use lights.

If you have somebody that you have no ideal what so ever to give them...maybe give them a cookie jar (could pick one up at a rummage sale, flea market or Goodwill) filled with cookies and them bake them cookies once a month to keep it filled or every other month.

Reusing Pasta Boxes
A lot of pasta boxes come with a see thru window. Unglue the boxes carefully and refold with the printed side in. Then use a piece of wrapping paper, comic or scrapbook paper and fold around the box cutting out where the window is. For around the window trim with a piece of ribbon or rick rack, etc.. Also the top and bottom of the paper can be finished off with a piece of ribbon. Attach a label and put your goodies inside. I use a gallon size baggie or whatever size will fit in my box to put my food in. When I received it the food was just in the box.
Good for trail mix, caramel corn, cookies, and candies.

Cinnamon Scent
If you love the scent of cinnamon and don't have some simmering on the stove and you don't use pinecones to decorate. then get some of the scented pinecones and hide around. I had a friend who hated to use pinecones but she would place them on lower level of tables (unseen) behind furniture and anywhere else she could.

Pasta Wagon Wheel Snowflake Ornament
I have made some snowflakes before but they were single ones. Here I go again trying to explain without a picture. :(
Spray paint the pasta and let dry. I have used gold, white and put some very fine glitter on them and used a clear sealer.
Make like a plus sign using 7 wheels each way. Glue them together.
Make a X with 5 one way and then 2 on each side of the middle, glue onto bottom layer.
Attach hanger.
Try different shapes on bottom and top.
Several years ago I made Christmas trees using the wagon wheel pasta. Painted green and the bottom one brown. On the center of the wheels I used different colored small jewels that you purchase several in a pack. The top I put a star jewel and a hanger.
A friend made some and used a piece of corn in the middle of each wheel.
My hangers are always fishing line.

Cucumber Dip
This dip is really good!
Original recipe is:
1 8 oz. package of cream cheese softened
2 small to medium cucumbers
1/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon onion salt
Peel, core and dice cucumber pretty small. Sprinkle with salts and toss. Let stand for 20 to 30 minutes, then mix in the cream cheese. If it is to thick add a few drops of milk, BUT be carefull it can get runny fast. Sometimes if left to sit in fridge juice will be standing in it so if you mix that in, it is ready for dipping and no milk needed.
For a larger batch for a potluck the lady I got the recipe from said she used this:
3 8 oz cream cheese softened
3 large cucumbers
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp onion salt
then follow the above
Like she said it is a trial and error recipe and depends on your taste.
I have always used the original recipe and added to our taste.

Santa Picture
I don't know if I have ever taken a picture with Santa! Don't recall seeing any from my younger days.
For a change why not try to get the family----or just you and the grandkids---together and go to the mall or wherever Santa is and get a family picture taken.
That might be an ideal for Christmas cards this year!
Never to old for Santa!

Breakfast Casserole
This is a casserole that I make often to take to work.
1 can crescent rolls
ground sausage
onions
green peppers
mushrooms
3 to 4 eggs
grated cheddar cheese
milk
Using a 9x13 dish spray the bottom. Unroll the crescent rolls and put into bottom of dish pressing the seams together.
Cook your sausage with the onions, green peppers and mushrooms. I season it with salt, pepper and some Cajun seasoning. Drain when done. Put the mixture onto the rolls.
Break the eggs into a bowl and beat. Stir in some milk and stir together. Pour over the sausage mixture. I put about 1/2 the bag of cheese on now. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes. When the crust is brown. Put the rest of the cheese on top when it comes out of the oven.
Sorry not more specific but haven't seen the original recipe in years and I just do it this way.
You can change the toppings and amount of eggs you put on. Also adjust the seasonings. Have used red pepper flakes too.

Snowman Containers
Purchase 3 containers that fit on top each other with each being a different size (like 3 snowman balls). They could be square or bowls. You can give goodies--cookies, candies, rubs, or seasoning salts, chex mix, etc. in a container.
The head put on 2 black button eyes, a piece of fleece or ribbon around the bottom of it for a scarf, and on the other 2 put a big button in the center. Maybe try packaging or duct tape on bottom to hold together.
The receiver will get useful containers to use over and over and the goodies will be enjoyed.

New tradition?
At your holiday dinner hand out paper star cut outs (construction paper, brown sacks, etc) and have each person write down what they're the happiest for since last Christmas and date them. The front could be decorated with paints, words (joy, etc...). Be sure they sign them. Punch a hole in them and put ribbon thru and hang on the tree.

Photo Pillow
Photocopy a favorite snapshot onto iron on transfer paper available at craft and office supply stores. iron onto white fabric, frame with a ribbon border and sew onto a pillow. Or make a pillow by sewing photo to a bigger piece of fabric and a backing-sew 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 sides, stuff and then slipstitch shut.
Not a sewer? Use a photo and put onto a sweatshirt.
Can enlarge picture or use several and put onto project.

Bath Bundles
1 cup Epsom Salt
1 teaspoon essential oil, such as lavender or peppermint or scent of your choice
2 drops of food coloring, color to match your scent (if you don't want to use food coloring you can buy colors in the department for homemade soaps)
Grind up the Epsom salt in a food processor until salts resemble a fine powder. In a bowl, mix salts, oil and food coloring until completely blended. Spread the mixture evenly on a baking sheet and let dry overnight. Divide into 4 plastic bags.
Wrap a bag in a terry cloth washcloth and drop it up and tie with a ribbon.
Use 1 bag per bath.
Years ago I use to make bath salts and put them in quart jars. I made rose, and a rain one. It called for glycerin also but I have misplaced the recipe. People loved them.

Name Tag
For a name tag purchase some of the round tags with metal rims that can be found at office supply stores and probably craft stores. Decorate with rubber stamps, maybe a beaded or glitter initial, a photo of the person who the gift is for. Can be used for an ornament then. Put a ribbon or hanger on it.
I think it would be neat to do that with baby or pictures of the person when younger and let the present giver outer try to guess them.

A cake cover
If giving a full size cake as a gift, purchase a hat box. Plain cardboard one. Either wrap the box with wrapping paper, use scrapbook paper, or paint it and then use a sponge to put another color on it. Can use fringe, beading or the likes if you want to decorate it up.
Put the cake on the lid part and then the big part over it.
I sure miss not being able to post pictures of what I am talking about!

Plywood Decorations
I can remember when I was very young and several summer nights when my sister and I were in bed you would see dad outside with a projector and a Christmas picture blown up on a piece of plywood and he would be tracing it and then cut it out and paint for Christmas decorations. Had Charlie Brown characters for awhile and several other things. I keep buying coloring books with big pictures in order to do this sometime BUT..... time is never there for it! Would love to do cartoon themes from what my granddaughter watches.

I know this is a repeat BUT
I think maybe every year for Christmas In July I post about gift giving for the garden. This is the time of year to look for that stuff. Several stores like Big Lots, Hobby Lobby and Dollar General are clearancing some of it. Bird feeders, little decorative stakes, wind chimes, fairy garden items, plant stands, gloves, gazing balls etc.....
Last year I gave 4 gifts that were a metal chair that said Welcome on it. It was at least 36" and could be inside or out and they all loved it.

Cheap Wreaths
If you are in the area to get honeysuckle vine you can gather it and make your wreaths. Fall is the time to gather it. Nothing beats free.
Payday Popcorn
In a skillet melt 4 tablespoons of butter and then add in either 2 king size or 5 regular size payday candy bars chopped up. When all is melted pour over microwave popped popcorn.
A customer gave us this recipe about a week ago when he was in the bank.

Lid ornament
Get 2 lids the same size--such as mayonnaise
Get 2 Christmas cards that are alike and putting the lids back to back by gluing but also put some lace inbetween so it is out and a hanging ribbon.
Glue cards inside the lids.
My son did this back in 1st or 2nd grade and used a card with deer on it. They put some cotton inside to look like it was walking on snow. Some of the snow glitter would be pretty to add.
Sorry no picture--hope it makes sense the way I explained it.

Odd Package to wrap?
Use a bath towel. Regular, over sized or even a beach towel. Some stores might have beach towels on clearance now. I know one year for Christmas I gave almost everyone beach towels. Kohls had them super cheap on line at one point. Some were like 2 or 3 dollars.

Gift for the feet
Find a cute pair of soxs or the fuzzy soxs and fill each one with items to pamper the feet. A stone to file the dead skin, lotion, pair of long clippers, feet soaking solution, polish, polish remover, maybe a gift card for a pedicure. Tie the pair together with a ribbon.
Maybe a toe ring if the receiver would like that.

Egg Yolk Paint
Let the kids paint unbaked cookies with egg yolk paint.
For each color you are doing beat the egg yolk until smooth, then stir in 5 to 6 drops of food coloring.
Using a new paintbrush paint and then bake as usual.
I have not tried this but thinking it would be fun for kids.

Shredded filler paper
If you have a shredder and need filler for a box---make your own. Use the comics, or buy the colored paper, or tissue paper and shred. Even the grocery adds will add some color into it. Cheaper than the pre packaged shred. Hmmm......I don't have a shredder.
